Yes, even though I am a professional wedding photographer, I do have time off when I am invited as a guest (Yes!!! I can finally enjoy the food and music!). That happens when a family member or a close friend gets married.
Sue and I were invited to one of our dearest friends, Ruth Thi, to her big day. We were of course overwhelmed! Sometimes I feel funny, and awkward, that I have to let go of my ‘working’ attitude when I attend a wedding. It often seems that I am working whenever I hold a camera up to my eye. Over the years, I kind of learn not to do it and I do respect other professionals and I usually don’t carry my ‘kit’. Yet I do want to ‘snap’ a few beautiful photos of my friends so here I am, sharing a few of my favorites of the day.
All photographs are taken with my Olympus OM-D E-M5, a 12mm and 25mm lenses (and a few shots with my 35mm Voitglander Leica lens with an adaptor). All shot with natural light. Copyright Jimmy Cheng
Good to be ‘NOT’ working and I could socialise with some good friends!
My dear Mei! We’ve been friends for a long long time (and I won’t declare how long hehe).
Here’s me!!! A rare sight of me not holding a camera! Then that hunk behind is my mate, Lee, who’s getting married soon too!
Grooms and his men were waiting patiently.
Here she came!
Doesn’t she look stunning!
I love these classic moments always.
Here came the ring!
Then it’s Ruth’s turn.
Finally the KISS! Now you are husband and wife!
Lots of photographers around me!

Now the Chinese banquet, food food food!!! This is the part that I don’t normally get to enjoy if I am working!
Announcement of the bride and groom in traditional Chinese marriage costumes.
Party time starts here!
… and drinking time!
Some good moments when they were watching the slideshow of their past and present… and future?
and of course some funny bits
The slide show was very nice and touchy.
It brought some emotional moments to some close friends.
It’s a traditional for a toast at each table that the couple invited. Here they came to our table for a big toast!
Usually this is also the moment when they get drunk and very hyper! Fun!
Then of course, the best men were there to ‘help’ the groom for some drinks!
More drinking moments…
That lasted a good half and hour!
.. and I was too happy to end the day without further photos 🙂
What a day and thank you Ruth and Chun for the invitation. My wife and I thoroughly enjoy your wedding. I rarely got to enjoy a full weddings so it’s fun and enjoyable. I finally relaxed for once!
I hope you enjoy this short selection. Good luck and catch up with you soon!
With lots of love,
Jimmy and Susan.
